Buyer's Notice Regarding Public Information
"Megan's Law" is the generic name for various state and federal laws which deal with the requirement that convicted sexual offenders register with law enforcement authorities as well as the availability of that information to the public.
Information regarding the location of convicted sexual offenders is available through appropriate law enforcement offices. Real estate agents do not keep such information in the normal course of business.
A buyer should not expect the real estate agent, as part of his or her services, to investigate, seek out information, disclose information, or warn a buyer about sexual offenders in any neighborhood, city, town, county, or area in which the buyer is looking for property.
The buyer should contact the appropriate law enforcement authorities for information of this nature.
